trwih drabbles #1

sorry to the gang for being silly with your characters, also i promise i'm gonna write corra/otto i just wanna catch up a little more first. (these little things contain NO spoilers for the show beyond MAYBE arc one so don't even worry about it.)

today we have tseer/wyatt with some pre-canon bodyguard shenanigans and tessa/ai in a 1940s au, both of which were way too much fun to write and FAR too short for me to feel comfortable posting to ao3 at this point so like.

(tseer/wyatt + "i'm going to need you to put on some underwear before you say anything else.")

The moment the door opened, Tseer squawked and whirled around. "Mr. Vancroft--,"

"Tseer," said Wyatt, behind him, and Tseer felt all the little feathers on the back of his neck fluff up in embarrassment. "I'm sorry if I scared you, I was only trying to grab something and knocked things off a top shelf. I'm fine."

"Sure you are," Tseer replied, and he knew the mortification was creeping into his tone but he couldn't help it. "And you were stark naked because?"

There was a long, drawn out silence, and every moment that passed Tseer felt another year of his life leech away. Just at the moment he was sure he was going to just melt into the floor and never reform again Wyatt said, "I-- promise there's an explanation."

"Okay, I'm going to need you to put on some underwear before you say anything else. At least."

"Okay, okay." Wyatt stepped away, Tseer hoped at the very least. There was the sound of rustling drawers, and Tseer peeked back to see that-- yep, bare ass naked, and he hurriedly turned away again.

"I'm decent now," Wyatt said, finally, and when Tseer peeked again he was in a pair of sleep pants, tying his hair up into a knot at the back of his head. "Come in, alright? I promise nothing untoward is going on, but you can check the perimeter if it makes you feel better."

Tseer nodded, trying to not stare, and stepped into the room.

(tessa/ai + 1940s jazz club au)

Now, look. It weren't that Big Mike's was a particularly favorite hangout of Jimmy's gang. In fact, the opposite was true. That was what made this place the meetup place.

Tessa's friend Corra was adding some violinist's twang to some teenage jazz band, starry-eyed at playing their first set. Ai could see Tessa's eyes wanderin' to them, as though she wanted to tell 'em to shoot bigger than a mob's club. But she was exercisin' good self control, not goin' to say that to 'em directly. Ai was almost proud of her, but at the moment she had bigger fish to fry.

"Your friend Tseer," Ai said instead, and Tessa turned back. "Sure seems to me like he's gone rogue."

"He's fine," Tessa said mildly, and Ai resisted the urge to roll her eyes. "Like, he's angry, yes, but he's not going to set fire to things. Unlike some people we know."

Ai snorted and picked up her drink again. "Just keep an eye on him, a'right? Don't wanna hear any of the Keepers losin' their shit, or yo-your crew losin' a friend."

"Aw, are you worried about him?" Ai coughed on her whiskey. "Don't worry, your secret's safe with me."

"Hush." Ai couldn't say she was more worried about Tessa's reaction to Tseer being brought in, or goin' haywire, because that would be too revealing.

"He'll be fine," Tessa said, waving a hand dismissively. "I'm going to admit I'm a little worried about you. With everything that happened with the Keepers, the streets are messier for the gangs-- you're not in danger, are you?"

Ai was so surprised she set her drink down entirely and blinked at Tessa for several long, awkward moments. It wasn't that she didn't know about Tessa's concern, just that, it weren't like Tessa could do much about it. Just as she was collecting words together to respond Tessa quickly added, "Not like I can be much help, or I could offer myself as a bodyguard," she laughed, as though at the thought, and then continued, "just, you know, I worry about you. Sometimes."

Ai nodded, mind still carefully blank, and said, "No, s'all good. You know. Fine. No trouble here, and if there was you know I'd just stab it."

"I do," Tessa said, and polished off her glass. "Doesn't stop me from worrying."

Ai was saved from responding by Orron slamming a glass down on the bar, hard. Tessa rolled her eyes. "Duty calls," she snarked, and rose. "Take care. See you next week?"

Ai bit her tongue on a "wouldn't miss it," and raised her glass in a quick toast.
